Did you buy this magazine to be inspired?
These children aren’t here for that; they take to the streets to demand the future we’ve failed to protect.
They beg us to be adults: adults who face the truth; adults who act on the science; adults with the courage to do what is necessary when its seemingly impossible.
Did you buy this magazine because you love beauty and culture?
But which? The “beauty” we create through exploitative labour; the skins of animals and the extraction and pollution of the natural world; or the beauty of people, animals and nature itself?
What of the culture that packages the excess that’s killing this planet and sells it as the right to dream? What of the magazines, billboards, shop windows that tell us what we can be if we buy these things?
You say creativity and imagination are human nature, so let’s envisage the radical change we need. Create solutions to deal with hard facts and true problems. Create to regenerate the beauty of the natural world. Create a regenerative culture. Create beyond our egos.
Did you buy this magazine to find truth?
Here and now is our moment of truth.
This is our final hour. Our seas are rising. What will you save from the floods?
Now, do we spend our final hours creating couture? Do we play the fiddle while Rome burns?
Flick through the pages of this magazine.
Where is the truth of our predicament; of extreme weather, food shortages, rising seas and mass migration?
What does a fashion magazine look like in 2030, 2040, 2050? Can it even exist in 2100?
As our house burns down around us, the fashion industry talks of creating more with less harm, instead of getting to the heart of the problem: do we really need these things? What is the system which drives this growth and insatiable desire? How does it really serve us?
What if we sounded the alarm like life depended on it?
What if we used our platforms to tell the truth about fashion’s ecocide and our trajectory towards mass extinction? We are all complicit in this toxic system. Let’s not point the finger at one another for our inescapable hypocrisy, but be honest about the system that governs us all. Let’s learn to let go. Let’s unite in resistance.
I hear you say we need to protect jobs. But there is so much work to be done and life that needs protection. So what are we really being protected?
Now, look these children in the eye. Don’t be inspired by them. Tell the truth. Act for them.
Let’s wake up. Let’s do what it takes.
If not now, when? If not you, who?

BEAUTY TRUTH JUSTICE
With love and rage, XR Boycott Fashion
XR Boycott Fashion is a working group of industry practitioners within Extinction Rebellion who believe the influence of the fashion industry is a powerful tool to wake people up to the emergency. XR Boycott Fashion is asking people
to boycott new clothing and textiles for 52 weeks to disrupt the industry and empower individuals through collective resistance. With its “Fashion, Tell the Truth” campaign, XR Boycott Fashion now also ask the fashion industry to tell the truth about the climate and ecological emergency and how it is complicit.
Extinction Rebellion is an environmental movement using direct action and non-violent civil disobedience to demand governments act now on the climate and ecological emergency.
Extinction Rebellion has three demands:
TELL THE TRUTH
The government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency and work with other institutions to communicate with urgency for change.
ACT NOW
The government needs to act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.
BEYOND POLITICS
The government needs to create and be led by the decisions of a citizens’ assembly on climate and ecological justice issues.
